Have you noticed a lot of great social movements have one thing in common? They are started by people who talk openly about their lives & experiences.

I noticed this particularly over the last few years whilst I have been studying. There has been such a diversity of people who talk about their own experiences. I have had conversations about kids of various ages, infertility, eating disorders, domestic violence, depression & anxiety, alcohol & drug abuse, homelessness, autism, religion & abortion.
It has been interesting to get personal perspectives on different experiences, not to mention educational for me. As an example, eating disorder convos ranged from someone who experienced it, a nurse’s perspective, & family members who lived alongside it. It left me with a better understanding from several perspectives due to people willing to share their experiences on the same topic.
Everyone was from different social backgrounds & ages, various employment histories, even nationalities differed. As the old saying goes “you can’t judge a book by its cover”. Everyone has a story to tell – you just need to listen.
